SPEAKERS
COURTNEY DRAGANI
Courtney Dragani is the Head of Product Development at The51 – a Financial Feminist™ platform. After a decade in the energy sector, Courtney made a career shift while on maternity leave to join a startup organization dedicated to women’s economic empowerment. At The51 Courtney leads the strategic planning, design, and delivery of innovative products and services for investors, entrepreneurs and those who aspire to be, including acting as the Program Lead for the inaugural Financial Feminism Investing Lab with the University of Calgary. Courtney sits on the Board of Directors for Liminality (an early-stage company focused on integrating families into NICU patient care to improve outcomes for babies and their families), and the Calgary Montessori school. Courtney lives in Calgary with her husband, two year-old daughter, newborn son, and much adored Border Collie.
UMAIR PERVEZ
Umair Pervez is a management consultant with an expertise in Future of Work. His work involves understanding the disruptive impact of modern technologies and helping organizations preemptively adapt to them. Umair has led a project which won the World Economic Forum's "Shaping my Cities Future Challenge" which saw him designing the most comprehensive Future of Work survey to be administered in Calgary. He holds a BSc in Information Systems and Management and an MSc in Organizational Psychology and Psychiatry. Umair spends much of his spare time volunteering with Calgary based organizations.
KATIE SMITH-PARENT
Katie leads Business Development for Industry Diversification for Spartan Controls, an industrial technology company with process automation, valve, measurement and control solutions in Western Canada. In addition, Katie is the Executive Director of Young Women in Energy (YWE), a non-profit Alberta organization of more than 4,500 members that provides voice, presence, development, and leadership of women working in the energy industry. In this role, she has presented to the Senate of Canada’s ENEV Committee on Bill C-69 and was featured on ARC Energy Research Institute’s ARC Energy Ideas podcast. She is a founding board member of Axis Connect, a non-profit acting as a collaboration and resource hub for women-focused initiatives and organizations in Calgary, and a board director for The Canadian Energy and Climate Nexus / Le Lien Canadien de L’Energie et du Climat, a non-governmental non-profit advocating for balanced solutions to Canada’s energy and climate challenges. In 2019, she was recognized by She Innovates Alberta, UN Women’s first pilot chapter of its Global Innovation Coalition for Change (GICC). Katie is currently pursuing her MBA in Executive Management at Royal Roads University.
